Micromanagement- A Silent Leadership Destroyer

Now days we see that every organisation want to grow rapidly. This only happen when the seniors or leaders of the company delegate their task to the team and focus on how to build up the organisation. In short if leaders have to change their vision from run the organisation to build the organisation.

In this process, Delegation of the task plays a vital role. There is the determined process of delegation. First one should clear about what to do, then how to do and then make clear the person about why to do. If any one of the above mentioned not explain clearly then the desired outcome not happen as per the expectations and then there will arise Micro Management of tasks. Micro Management is also depends on the personality of the Leader or Manager.

Today we are going to discuss something about Micro-Management and its impact on the organisation.
According to me, in all organisations Micro Management is available at some level knowingly or unknowingly. So first we know that what the Micro-Management is?
Micro-Management is basically one of the styles of controlling. Manager or Leader gives some assignment to their employee or subordinate but somehow they are unable to give required freedom to perform that task and continuous instructions are coming from their side about that task regarding very small matter. And the result of that the subordinate or employee not felt freedom or confidence in himself and end of the day not perform task as per expectations. Here I want to share one example; recently I have seen that One Manager give task to his team member about making some reporting format. Now till when the task is not complete he is giving continuous instructions about the same like which columns should be used,  which font is suitable & colors of the chart etc.... and at the end that team member was unable to give any of his inputs in that task.

If we see in the superficial level it sound good for completing work as per the desired of Manager or Leader for short term but it is very critical for building a Productive Team.
Let's see the drawback of the Micro-Management and how it effects the organisation.

1. Diminish the Creativity and Efficiency of Team:
Creativity only emerge when team member get freedom for doing his job individually and independently. If Manager wants to control his team in all matters it ends with the result of that Organisation don't get Creativity from its Team Members.

2. Don't Feel like Trusted:
"Employees will choose to follow a leader who instils Trust, Respect and Integrity"- Alison Vidotto
Trust is the very essential to build any relation weather it's personal or professional. And Trust will build only when manager or Employer give free hand to perform any task, and If there is micro-management exist in the organisation Team Member never feel Trusted.

3. Build the Team of Dependents:
To build culture in organisation employer have to create team of Independent Decision makers. It Increase the Trust, Self Confidence among the team members. And it is very easy for performing routine task of any organisation. By creating this kind of culture employer will spare time for thinking/building the future of organisation. But if employee couldn't get feeling of involvement or trusted they are not actively participating for any kind of decision making and not show much interest to give their any creative inputs.

4. High Employee Attrition Ratio:
According to Forbes "Employee Turnover is a leadership Problem". Normally we categorised employee in three categories: Engaged Employee, Not Engaged Employee and Actively Disengaged employee. In any organisation if there is more Engaged Employee the Attrition Ratio is less and Vis a Vis.

5. Less Involvement & No Initiate:

As per the above mentioned survey engaged employees play a very vital role in the progress of the organisation. Increase productivity and profitability as well.

Thus, Just allow your team member to do their work at their own, Just inform them what to do and why to do, If needed show them once how to do but not every time, avoid interference in every little things because there is a little difference between Micromanaging and Leading.

It is rightly said by Steve Jobs: "It does not make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do."

All the best to all Leader for being Real Leader...
