Micromanagement- A Silent Leadership Destroyer

Now days we see that every organisation want to grow rapidly. This only happen when the seniors or leaders of the company delegate their task to the team and focus on how to build up the organisation. In short if leaders have to change their vision from run the organisation to build the organisation.

In this process, Delegation of the task plays a vital role. There is the determined process of delegation. First one should clear about what to do, then how to do and then make clear the person about why to do. If any one of the above mentioned not explain clearly then the desired outcome not happen as per the expectations and then there will arise Micro Management of tasks. Micro Management is also depends on the personality of the Leader or Manager.

Today we are going to discuss something about Micro-Management and its impact on the organisation.
According to me, in all organisations Micro Management is available at some level knowingly or unknowingly. So first we know that what the Micro-Management is?
Micro-Management is basically one of the styles of controlling. Manager or Leader gives some assignment to their employee or subordinate but somehow they are unable to give required freedom to perform that task and continuous instructions are coming from their side about that task regarding very small matter. And the result of that the subordinate or employee not felt freedom or confidence in himself and end of the day not perform task as per expectations. Here I want to share one example; recently I have seen that One Manager give task to his team member about making some reporting format. Now till when the task is not complete he is giving continuous instructions about the same like which columns should be used,  which font is suitable & colors of the chart etc.... and at the end that team member was unable to give any of his inputs in that task.

If we see in the superficial level it sound good for completing work as per the desired of Manager or Leader for short term but it is very critical for building a Productive Team.
Let's see the drawback of the Micro-Management and how it effects the organisation.

1. Diminish the Creativity and Efficiency of Team:
Creativity only emerge when team member get freedom for doing his job individually and independently. If Manager wants to control his team in all matters it ends with the result of that Organisation don't get Creativity from its Team Members.

2. Don't Feel like Trusted:
"Employees will choose to follow a leader who instils Trust, Respect and Integrity"- Alison Vidotto
Trust is the very essential to build any relation weather it's personal or professional. And Trust will build only when manager or Employer give free hand to perform any task, and If there is micro-management exist in the organisation Team Member never feel Trusted.

3. Build the Team of Dependents:
To build culture in organisation employer have to create team of Independent Decision makers. It Increase the Trust, Self Confidence among the team members. And it is very easy for performing routine task of any organisation. By creating this kind of culture employer will spare time for thinking/building the future of organisation. But if employee couldn't get feeling of involvement or trusted they are not actively participating for any kind of decision making and not show much interest to give their any creative inputs.

4. High Employee Attrition Ratio:
According to Forbes "Employee Turnover is a leadership Problem". Normally we categorised employee in three categories: Engaged Employee, Not Engaged Employee and Actively Disengaged employee. In any organisation if there is more Engaged Employee the Attrition Ratio is less and Vis a Vis.

5. Less Involvement & No Initiate:

As per the above mentioned survey engaged employees play a very vital role in the progress of the organisation. Increase productivity and profitability as well.

Thus, Just allow your team member to do their work at their own, Just inform them what to do and why to do, If needed show them once how to do but not every time, avoid interference in every little things because there is a little difference between Micromanaging and Leading.

It is rightly said by Steve Jobs: "It does not make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do; we hire smart people so they can tell us what to do."

All the best to all Leader for being Real Leader...

The Magic formula for an Effective Leader

“If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, YOU ARE A LEADER”.
                                                                        - John Quincy Adams

Recently I have seen the engaging conversation between our admired, honored & prominent personality Mr. Narendra Modi- the Prime Minister of India & Very Famous "Apki Adalat" fame Mr.Rajat Sharma-Chairman of India TV on 4th May 2019.

It was a memorable moment and I was lucky to catch this momentous time.

Apart from political discussions, I have observed and try to understand the working style & behavior pattern of our respected prime minister. With due respect I am not able to write down all the qualities of such a great legendary personality. I just try to learn something from him and I came to know some of the considerable qualities of an Effective Leader which I would be glad to share with you.

1. Encourage Team with Action not merely by Words:

The main Quality of a real leader is that they inspire actions. But ever we think how any leader inspires actions?  or how people follow any leader ?People never follow instructions for a long time. They only follow the footstep of their leader. Mr. Narendra Modi Sir always takes actions for inspire their team and create a balance between his words and actions so that he encourages his team. He manages himself in such a wonderful way that it becomes ideal for everyone.

2. Extreme Confidence:

Confidence is the primary key for success in any stage of life. Modi Sir shared many incidents of his early life and said that I have never thought that I will become what I am today but I have full confidence in me and things go on. In 2014 before election he was told clearly & confidently that He will become the prime minister. It was Narendra Modi’s strong confidence level that won him the election and became the Prime Minister of the country. Confidence is a characteristic that everyone struggles with at one point, but for an effective leadership skill one should develop the vital ability of Confidence. My Favorite motivational GURU Mr.Santosh Nair says that Confidence is the internal ability so everyone can build it for become a leader.

3.  Credit Giver & Organisation comes first:

I have noted that in every speech of Modi Sir, whenever he get any recognition or honored he always says that "It is not for Narendra Modi as a person It is for my Country" Just like him Every Leader should be the credit giver for any little success or achievement to the entire team and vice versa always be ready for taking responsibility if there is any problem or failure.

The thought process of a True Leader is Company/Organisation centered not self centered. He should be always seeking benefits of the organisation first. Personal Benefit is least concern for a Leader.

4. Never Build any Perception:

During the conversation of Modi Sir, he was asked that as he met with the Presidents of many countries, Have you research about them in advance?  He gave amazing answer that about researching of any person in advance it will create a certain perception about that person and it is not the reality. So he never research about any person and never build any perception which is based on the other person's thinking or experience. He further added that He will first meet and experience anyone and then create impression of them. So I feel everyone should learn from him is that not to precept about anyone depending on any other person's experience or opinion and this is the quality of an impressive leader.

5. Balance in all Relations:

The other question he was asked that "You have develop relations with all countries presidents, Then how you maintain a government's strategy in dealing with their nations & Relations with them? He gave very interesting answer that" I use Mind when I am on the table and use heart when left the table." This shows us to balance with work life and personal life and how a leader should build relations with all the team and how he can get the work done from the team.

I sum up with that The True Leader is a person who can take people on their goal. People follow the leader because they couldn't reach on their goal with their own. Leader is a person who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way and has the capacity to convert vision into reality.

What do you think about it?

What other ideas can you add to this list that I may have not mentioned?

If you find this post is useful, I had be very grateful if you spread by sharing in your groups & Team.

Keep the child in you alive!

Today is a very special day to share some special thoughts on a topic which is closest to my heart.
Have you ever tried to recall the memory which gave you most cheerfulness, pleasure and liveliness? If yes, then I am sure it was of your childhood. We were very happy at that time and that happiness comes from very minimum resources or if you remember sometimes there was no reason for our happiness. That was the real us. Who can be happy without any reason, expressed their self without worrying anything else and have no ego In the journey of life the time passes and we grow elder, lost those qualities. Life becomes such a routine that we all are busy for running behind one or other things. We have no time to pause for a moment and just think about where we want to reach? In this situation today I want to share some of the qualities which if we continue in our life than we also become as happy as a child.

1.        Being Happy With No Reason:

Have you remembered the last time when you become very happy or feel cheerful? As we grow up we forget to be happy, we postponed our happiness in finding some reasons and when we find that we postponed it for the other reason, now we want strong reason to be happy. If I am a student and got first number then I think that if I will get good job then I will be happy, after getting good job I thought if a find a suitable life partner then I will be happy, and so and so….We develop habit of postponing our happiness. In my first blog as I share the same thought that don’t depend on any person or situation for your happiness. Be a child –be happy without any reason.

2.        Expressed yourself:

As we grown up, we have the fear of what others think and say about us. One of my favorite speaker Sandeep Maheshwari says that “सबसे बड़ा रोग क्या कहेंगे लोग” We even never expressed our self in this fear. Just remember the childhood, have you ever think about the other people’s judgment about yourself? The answer is simply NO. Then why now?  One of my favorite Gujarati sentence I would like to share in this regards, “જો બીજા લોકો શું વિચારશે એ પણ તમે જ વિચારશો તો એ લોકો શું કરશે? So expressed you without any fear. Always be what you are.

3.        To Love & To Forgive:

When I was a child, I recall that I quarreled with my friends told them not to talk with me ever and in the very next minute we are together again. I couldn’t manage that distance from my friends or with family members. And I am sure that was the scene of all yours. And now think about the same situation. Can we easily forgive anyone?  Can we love anyone without any condition? I don’t need to answer, we all know that. Why we couldn’t behave the same as our childhood? Because of our Ego. We couldn’t forgive anyone as easily as we do as a child. Sometimes we show off that we forgive someone and make same good relationship but in our mind the same thing exist. We couldn’t forget.

4.        Don’t Worry about Tomorrow:

When we are children we live in presence, enjoy each and every moment of life in short if I say we live our life, And now just our life pass on. We are carring such a huge bundle of worries for our tomorrow that we forget to live in presence. Forget to enjoy the present moment and as I said in the first topic that we have develop the habit of postponing our happiness. So be Happy, Enjoy your life –Live every moment of the life and express yourself, develop unconditional relationship and celebrate this children’s day with a child within you.

Happy Children’s Day to you all…

Quick Tips for Improving - Hiring Process

“Recruitment” is One of the complex function of Human Resources and very crucial. Being a HR Professional I perceive Recruitment is the most important function of HR because it is the work of acquiring Right People, with Right Abilities, in the Right Time. If once wrong person hired, it cost a lot to company.

Today I want to share some of my learning from my experience concerning “Recruitment & Interview Process”
Before some days, I got a chance to become a core team member for walking interviews with a prestigious company.

I concede HR person is the Ambassador of the company, who represent their company to the interviewee and they have the core responsibility to make candidate aware about the Policies, Culture, and Regulations of the company. But I found sometime in the pressure of hiring they are not able to convey all the necessary information effectively –rightly. Some of my learning areas under this important topic that how to make the interview more effectively and productively.

 1.       Transparent Communication:

Candidate become employee is the long-term relationship, so it is advisable that all communication should be transparent from both the sides. Company Vision & Mission, Profile, System and processes of the company, policies, Rules & Regulations and Job Profile should be conveying clearly so that candidate can align his future with the future of the company.

 2.       Clarion about the Non-Negotiable Standards:

Every company has its own standards and among them, some are non-negotiable standards. In any case, a company can’t compromise in this. So candidate should be very well aware of this kind of principle of the company and He/She gets the idea that they can adjust in the system or not. It would be clearer with an example that in a company there is a system of service agreement of 2 years for any joining and it is compulsory for all new joiners. But some time due to some reason this matter is not conveyed properly to the candidate, I have learned from them that how undoubtedly clear this to the candidate without thinking about them may join or not. I have learned that weather candidate may join or not but we are not supposed to change any of our Non-Negotiable standards.

3.       Interview Time is a Significant Factor:

Sometimes I found that many of interviewers take same time in a different kind of posts interview. For Example, One hour for Manager Level post interview and same for Assistant Level. Sometimes it creates a negative effect on the candidate because different level candidates have distinct skill sets. So interviewer has to be very specific and conscious for all the time taken for a different level of candidates.  Hope if every interviewer takes care of these, then definitely they get right people. It also helps make the right recruitment and decrease the employee turnover ratio.
Because
“In Recruiting, There are no good or bad experiences – just learning Experiences!!”

Appreciation -A Tool of Motivation

“You don’t build a Business, You build people and then people build the business”
                                                                                                   - Zig Ziglar

Such a nice thought of the Zig Ziglar, is it possible that people build business?

Yes, It is possible. Now days it is very common thought and we all are aware of it. Today I would like to discuss with you about the Motivation of Employee. How can we motivate employees?? By rewarding from money?? No. Money is not only a tool for motivation. The best moment of any person’s life is when he/she get appreciated. Being an Entrepreneur, Maximum result and productivity is expected from their people each time and every time. But somehow, they forget that they expecting this from their Men not from Machine, although machine also need maintenance after some decided time. Same as the machine, Men (Human Being) also want some attention and special treatment. Sometime entrepreneur doesn’t understand value of small appraisal. They only focus on what work is pending and even not bother about what Good is happening.

Your people build your business when they are Happy and they get happy when they will be Appreciated. Appreciation of their work between the team get the employee motivated and happy and then they produce good result and a productive day in the organization.

But being a human being most of the entrepreneurs or Leaders can’t recognize the need of the appreciation. They don’t have the Habit of it. And then vis a vis they won’t be able to pass on the same. And the circle goes on. And in this all the organization suffers a lot, not get and kind of expected result or productivity for people. A small moment of appreciation will make a large difference in the working pattern of the employee and their thought process.

Entrepreneur will get Best result by doing just develop a habit of appreciate any one who is doing anything good at the same time. No matter how big or small but It creates a great difference in the organization and make a productive and Interactive atmosphere. It doesn’t mean that They don’t give their opinion or suggestions to their team members but Just first appreciate their work and then say that” You are doing this very well but It could be better if you do this….” This just a way and just an example.

I wish Win Win situation for both entrepreneur as well as employees. I suggest that please try this once and see the difference in your people and in you also.

All the Best for getting More Result oriented Team and Dear Employees for you Do your best and you will get the best.

You Can Do It !!!
